Google Earth for iPhone and iPod Touch updated to version 2.0

Google has updated its Earth application to v2.0 for iPhone and iPod touch devices, according to a company blog post. Several new features have been added, including the ability to sync content between desktop computers and Apple's handheld devices. Earth's user experience has been improved and new languages have also been added.

Users can now create custom maps on their desktop computers and access them from their iPhone and iPod touch devices using their Google Maps account. User experience has been improved with a small glow that emanates from icons when they are being touched, better indicating to users which icons they are about to click. Thirteen new languages have also been added to the software, bringing the total to 31.

Users can download version 2.0 of Google Earth from iTunes App Store.

iPod Nano battery drain results

CNET Labs finished their panel of battery drain tests for the fifth-generation Apple iPod Nano, and the results are better than expected. Testing for continuous playback of audio and video, the Nano reached an average of 33.6 hours of audio or 5.3 hours of video.

Given Apple's own modest battery rating of 24 hours of audio or 5 hours of video, we expect Nano owners will be happy to know they have a little extra time to squeeze from their iPods

Battery rating is very important for me. Based on my experience, usually, the specs given by manufacturers with regards to battery rating is the ideal one.  That is why it's good to know that the Apple iPod nano battery drain test results conducted by CNET's Labs surpassed Apple's own rating!

Disney launching iPhone, iPod touch applications

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co is launching free iPhone and iPod touch applications, giving fans access to Disney content and interactive features anywhere.

Disney.com, part of the Disney Interactive Media Group, said it will offer users of the popular Apple Inc devices items like the new "Click2Life" feature that lets fans take pictures of images from the Disney.com Web site, and eventually in the physical world, and unlock exclusive content.

For instance, a teenager may one day see a poster of an upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean" film in a mall, snap a picture of the poster with an iPhone and then generate video content related to that picture or character.

Jason Davis, vice president of Disney.com, said in an interview that the media giant realized it already had a huge audience of iPhone and iPod touch users for its content on its existing mobile application on Disney.com.

Disney.com reaches nearly 31 million unique visitors per month and said that among mobile Web sites, it ranks as the No. 1 entertainment mobile site.

It also has an expanding lineup of many paid applications currently available in Apple's App Store including Toy Story Mania!, Disney Fairies Fly, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Breakspin.

"Our iPhone and iPod touch traffic is heavily made up of kids and moms. The iPod touch has a very specific demographic geared to the tween," he said, adding that within Disney content, there are various safety controls.

"Because the applications are self-contained, once you're in the application, you can't get into anything else," he said.

The new application organizes Disney-branded content within one destination on each device, lets users interact with Disney characters through customizable photo frames and audio greetings, listen to Radio Disney live, watch music videos and buy Disney music on Apple's iTunes Store.

Yup!  As long as those applications are FREE, that would be great for me!  Even though iPod touch is geared towards younger people, adults [I believe] may still enjoy Disney's interactive features.

Just press and hold a button, and VoiceOver tells you the title of the song and the artist without interrupting the music!!!  VoiceOver also tells you the names of your playlists. So, you can easily switch between your playlists to find the right mix for you mood.  You do not have to take you eyes off the road or whatever you're doing.  And when your battery needs charging, VoiceOver tells you that, too.

A lot of people like the iPod Shuffle because it's sooo small but it's HUGE when it comes to features! 
An mp3 player that talks?!...and speaks 20 different languages?!  I used to see this type of technology in movies when I was a kid, in movies played in a VHS player! =)

Nike + iPod Compatible Remote or Heart Rate Monitor

According to AppleInsider, the new 5G iPod Nano that has a built-in pedometer will also be compatible with an upcoming Nike-branded heart rate monitor.   The evidence of the device exists in the latest Nike+ iPod user guide, posted on Apple's Web site.

The section entitled "Linking a Nike + iPod Compatible Remote or Heart Rate Monitor" is on page 20.
